Wolf Den

Have you heard of the playground game called "Wood Chips?" How about "Kick The Can" or "Capture The Flag?" If you haven't, your Wolf Den will show you how. If you have already mastered it, then you can help make sure your fellow scout knows how.  Wolves continue to play fun games and learn how to be well-rounded, ethical, honest, helpful scouts.

In the Second Grade, Cub Scouts build upon the fun experiences and valuable lessons they learned as a Bobcat and Tiger to earn their Wolf Badge.  While it is no longer necessary to have an adult partner present at all times, two-deep leadership will anchor the Den with safe ethical principles.  A Boy Scout may return to the Wolf Den as the Den Chief to help show the value of service and giving back.

Wolves enjoy a second round of great all-grade (Pack) events like swimming and bowling parties, timeless pinewood derbies, Fall and Spring camping, hiking, popcorn fundraising, volunteering at the Willard Fair, cleaning up Lighthouse Beach, and collecting food donations for those in need.

The Museum Sleepover is in a different museum each year.  Where did you go last year?  Ask your Cub Master where we will go this year, or better yet, volunteer to schedule it.  Were you unable to go camping last year?  Attend this year. Your scout will appreciate it! After the years fly by and you find yourself attending his high school graduation, you will remember moments like these, where you really got to spend quality time with him.

The optional Wolf Cub Scout Handbook is an excellent resource for your Scout.  It may give more detail than is available online at sites like scouting.org. It does give your Scout a great way to keep track of his progress and also lists electives that could be completed as a Den or at home with a parent.

Scout Handbooks are available where Scouting supplies are sold, such as the Boy Scout store in Highland Park, for $8.99 (at the time of this posting.)  You can also find new and gently used Handbooks at thrift stores and second-hand bookstores for a lower cost.

Electives are not required, but even if you don't try, you will inevitably complete some.  For the first 10 Electives completed, the Scout will earn a Gold Arrow Point.  For each additional 10 Electives Completed, the Scout will earn a Silver Arrow Point. Arrow Points are earned after the Wolf Badge is earned.  They go on the uniform shirt under the Wolf Badge. Electives can be completed more than once. Once you have completed an Elective, please let your Den Leader know so they can record it.
